By Les and Rosemary Stulberg

The annual Boar’s Cup hockey tournament is coming up at the arena in Byemoor on March 25-27.

Be sure to take in some of the men’s hockey action as this is the last tournament of the season.

Any Byemoor – Endiang folks wishing to join the Rural Crime Watch group may contact Twila Buchwitz at 403-323-0397 or email your application with the five dollar fee to twilabuchwitz@netago.ca.

Watch for upcoming meetings.

Spring has been in the air, much of the snow has melted, the Canada geese and robins are back and gophers have been spotted.

Some farmers have baby calves born already or are beginning their calving season.

March 20 was the first day of spring and as often happens on the first day of spring many areas got another blast of winter.

Tanis Longshore hosted a Ladies Night paint night at the Byemoor Hotel on Saturday evening.

The ladies group enjoyed an evening out and painted some cool signs.

Mark your calendars for a Crib Tournament coming up at the Endmoor Drop-In Centre on Thu, April 21 starting at 10 a.m.

Pre-registrations must be received before April 17 with only the first 32 registrants accepted.

Cost is $20 and includes lunch.

Phone entries to Doreen Nixon at 403-579-2460 or 403-740-9546 soon to ensure a spot.

Many folks may be a fan of the actor Ryan Reynolds who has achieved much fame in the film industry.

But few probably know of his connection to the County of Stettler.

Ryan Reynolds’ grandfather Clarence Reynolds was born in 1902 in Chicago but immigrated to Canada in 1906 with his family to take a homestead at Gadsby.

Clarence grew up and was educated at Gadsby, married Helen Long in 1938 and became a farmer in the Gadsby district.

The couple had four children, including Ryan’s father James Reynolds, born in 1941.

Clarence Reynolds was elected as an MLA in the Social Credit Party and represented the Stettler Constituency from 1940-1944 in the Alberta Legislature.

The family later moved to Vancouver where Ryan was born and where both Clarence and James (a retired RCMP officer) passed away in 1983 and 2015 respectively.

Things to Ponder —

“Did you realize that 1970 and 2022 are as far apart at 1970 and 1918?”

“A bad attitude is like a flat tire. You can’t get very far until you change it.”

“You do not find a happy life. You build it.”
