William McWilliam


William McWilliam Jamieson was born on October 27, 1916, in Humbie, Scotland the 5th child of Robert and Janet Jamieson and passed away on May 27, 2017 at the age of 100.

At the age of 9 the family sailed across the ocean to Canada where they made their home north east of Halkirk. Bill worked over 40 years in the mining industry as well as mixed farming and raising thoroughbred race horses. He was very proud of his race horses and never missed a race if at all possible.

In January 1945, he married a neighbor girl, May Doan and to this union, seven children were born: Doan, Geraldine, Maxine, Sheryl, Elaine, Melanie and Lyle. Bill was a devoted father to his seven children and they always enjoyed family summer vacations. They continued to enjoy the summer traveling after the children had all left home in their camper or 5th wheel trailer.

In 1993 Bill and May sold the farm and retired in Halkirk. Due to health reasons, they moved into Heart Haven Lodge in 2008. In 2013, they moved to Points West and lived there until his passing.

Bill was predeceased by his loving wife May, his parents, Robert and Janet, his siblings Susan and Charlie Marshall, Jean and Cliff Broome, Jock and Peggy Jamieson, Bert and Margaret Jamieson and Dave and Elsie Jamieson.

He is survived by his seven children: Doan and Sherry Jamieson and families, Geraldine and Don Couthard and families, Maxine and Bob Baird and families, Sheryl and Ross Bunbury and families, Elaine Jamieson, Melanie and Clark Bunbury and families and Lyle Jamieson; 14 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Lydia Doan and several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

Funeral services were held at Halkirk Hall, Halkirk, Alberta on the 5th day of June, 2017 with Mr. Phil Doan and Mr. Bernie Doan officiating. Mr. Bob Hocking presented the Eulogy and his gift of music. Grandchildren read poems and shared memories of Grandpa. Bill was laid to rest at the Halkirk Cemetery, beside his beloved May, with his beloved grandchildren as Honorary Pallbearers and Active Pallbearers were Tom Baird, T.J. Baird, Travis Bunbury, Coy Bunbury, Craig Bunbury, Paris Shannon and Terra James.

Family and friends gathered in the Halkirk Hall for a time of sharing memories and a luncheon by the Community Ladies of Halkirk.
