Passed away in his sleep after a long illness on October 18, 2018 at the age 66 years.

He was born January 4, 1952 in Calgary, AB. He spent his childhood on various bases as his father was in the army. Bill himself entered the army after being in the militia at the age of seventeen until 1974. During this time, he reaches the rank of corporal and the highlight of which was with the Peacekeeping Forces with the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry in Cyprus which he was awarded the UN Medal of Honor.

After getting out of the army he apprenticed as a heavy-duty mechanic which he worked at until shortly before his death, first in Calgary and then in Stettler. He was a hard working, conscientious worker who was well known in the oilfield business. He loved teasing and cuddling his grandchildren. You could find him at his favorite fishing hole with his friend Errol.

He was predeceased by his grandmother Maude Evans (Farrell), mother Alberta Joyce Shaffer (Harding) and his father Jay Douglas Shaffer.

Bill will be missed by his wife Brenda, Son & family Garth (Crystal), Sorin, Story, Roman and Casca, daughter Tabetha Klaus grandson Ethan. Step son Tim (Crystal) McKenzie, Alexis, Kaitlyn and Dugan. His fishing buddy Errol (Myrna) Squires.

No funeral as he has been donated to the Anatomical Gift Program at the University of Alberta.
