Wayne Curtis Mowery was born on May 29, 1946 in Kinistino, Saskatchewan and passed away on April 9, 2011 at the age of 64 after a courageous battle with cancer. After his school years and graduation from Wm. E. Hay High School in Stettler, Alberta, Wayne travelled to Esquimalt, BC to join the Navy. After the Navy, Wayne enjoyed three careers: the first in dairy farming with his Mom and Dad, the second as a heavy duty mechanic at Stettler Machinery Inc. and the third as an oilfield operator. Wayne always had a passion and strong commitment to his work. In 1976, Wayne met Mary Ann and eight years later they were married in Stettler, Alberta. With this marriage Wayne became an instant father to three girls: Sherry, Lorri and Tracey. This is also when he began his competitive journey with his sons in law. Many days were spent playing racquet ball, golfing, tennis and watching NHL Hockey, but always with a purpose to win. Wayne and Mary Ann spent many enjoyable years camping and travelling. Throughout Wayne’s life he spent many hours reading, writing songs, singing and playing guitar. His love and perfection for woodworking has given his family some wonderful keepsakes to treasure forever. Wayne felt very blessed to have six special grandchildren light up his life. He was very proud of them all. Wayne and Mary Ann spent hours, days and weekends attending everything and anything that involved the grandchildren. Wayne is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann; his mom Belle Mowery; his three girls: Sherry Kehler LaRose, Lorri (Dale) Bauman and Tracey Kehler; six grandchildren: Danielle and Kara LaRose, Stephanie, Karlie, Courtney and Jordan Bauman; his sister Fay (Don) Hill; all Mary Ann’s family, nieces, nephews and many special friends. Wayne was predeceased by his father Ernest Mowery. A private family service was held for Wayne on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at the Heartland Chapel of Stettler Funeral Home.
