BLACKMORE

Walter James "Jim" Blackmore passed away suddenly on November 1, 2009 on the family farm, doing what he loved best, farming. Jim was born at home near Gadsby, Alberta on May 14, 1930. Jim attended Little Knife School and then on to Gadsby where he completed Grade 11. At that time, if you wanted your grade twelve education you had to go on to Red Deer, so Jim opted to stay at home and help out on the farm. At the age of nine, Jim moved from home to live with his sister Maud, who had been hired to look after Bob Kitson's mom. Jim always said "Bob was the fella that raised him." Jim met and married Marian Bignell and together they raised three wonderful sons Ray, Darcy and Mike. Jim and Marian spent many wonderful times with Robert and Doreen Potvin and saw many different places and shared special moments together. Jim leaves to mourn his loving wife Marian of Gadsby; sons: Ray (Rene) Blackmore of Botha, Darcy Blackmore of Red Deer and Mike (Angela) Blackmore of Stettler; grandchildren: Robert (Melissa), Travis (Leigh Anne), Scott (Christa), Tim (Melanie), Izetta (Kevin), Jeri, Holly and Ariel; brother Butch Blackmore of Coronation, sisters Doris Duhamel of Rocky Mountain House and Vera Kroetsch of Lacombe; special cousin Doreen Potvin of Lethbridge; as well as nieces, nephews, the extended Bignell Family, other relatives and many friends. Predeceased by his parents; sister Maud; brother Chuck; parents in law Izetta and Vic Bignell, and special cousin Robert Potvin. Celebration of life was held at Stettler Funeral Home on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Mervyn Penfound officiating. Grandson Robert Blackmore gave a loving tribute and the family presented a DVD slide show of Jim's life. Interment was held at Omega Cemetery at 12:30 PM. Family and friends gathered in the Heartland Fellowship Hall for a time of sharing and refreshments prepared and served by Brenda's Country Catering.
