Violet Lorraine Baird (Bowen)
of Slave Lake, Alberta
Nov. 13, 1936-Dec. 21, 2011
It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and granny. Violet passed away on December 21, 2011 at the age of 75 in the Slave Lake Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband, Grant and their devoted family; one daughter, Sheila (Frank), two sons, Glenn (Maureen) and Doug (Connie); five grandchildren, Carla (Clayton), Joel, Jayme, Jayson (Kelsey) and Lyndsay (Brent) and four great grandchildren; Rhys, Kaizek, Dayven and Lexi. Violet was predeceased by her son, Terry and her grandson, Drew (Doug and Connie). She will also be sadly missed by her brother, Stan; her sisters, Catherine, Myfy and Dilys; numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends.
"Granny Purple" was an energetic, fun loving and athletic social butterfly. She lived life one way and one way only; at 100 miles per hour. She doted on her children, grand- children and great grandchildren. In fact, she spoiled them rotten and she had a special way of making each one of them think that they were the favorite.
On behalf of Violet, her family would like to thank the staff of each of the following hospitals for their outstanding care and compassion: Slave Lake Hospital, Sturgeon Hospital, Royal Alex Hospital and Cross Cancer Institute; and particularly Dr. John Keavney and Dr. Terry O'Keefe, both of Slave Lake.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Cross Cancer Institute, 11560 University Ave., Edmonton, AB. T6G 1Z2.
Celebration of Life service was held at the Gathering Place in Slave Lake, Alberta at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2011
