RAHO

Vernon Stanley

1938 - 2011

Vernon Stanley Raho passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at the age of 72 years. Vern was born in Grande Prairie, Alberta, the second son to Oscar and Annie Raho. At the age of 3 the family moved to Stettler where he resided until his passing. Vern went to school at Wall Lake and Waverly School. He was very athletic and enjoyed baseball, slowpitch (where he hit many homeruns), curling, snowmobiling and coaching the girl's ball team. He had a great love for the outdoors and spent lots of time fishing, hunting and camping with his good friends. His favorite vacations were the Alaskan Cruises and going fishing with his grandchildren. He always had a friendly smile and positive attitude. Vern met the love of his life, Doreen, in 1961 and they were married in 1962. To this union they raised four daughters. Vern had a special love for horses. Every winter he hitched up the team to take family and friends on many fun and eventful sleight rides. For his 70th birthday he organized a trail ride where he lead the crew from the family farm to Big Valley for lunch at the hotel. Some of Vern's jobs included working on the rigs, A-I ing cattle, fuel truck driving, carpentering, farming and pipelining. He also had his own business (Bronco Buster Water Hauling). He enjoyed wood working and volunteering to maintain the Estonian Cemetery. Vern is survived by his wife of 48 years, Doreen, daughters Sophie (Dean) Hewlett, Kathy (Donnie) Moxham, Nancy (Murray) Bauman, Julie (Dan) Carey, son-in-law Noel Nixon, grandchildren Travis (Natasha), Ashley, Scott, Curtis, Chad, Sommer, Cole and Adam as well as his faithful companions Buddy and Ringo. He was predeceased by his parents (Oscar and Annie), brother Tom, mother and father in law Edward and Hilda Payne, brother and sister in law John and Mable Murray, and brother in law Ernie Payne and great niece Nicole Raho and great nephew Ricky Payne. Funeral services were held at the Brennen Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 2:00 P.M.
