Sid Chapman passed away peacefully in the Stettler Hospital on Tuesday August 17, 2010 at the age of 96. Sid was born in Stettler on March 19, 1914, the forth of nine children born to William and Lillian Chapman. Sid was predeceased by Grace, his loving wife of 65 years and survived by one brother Jack (Madeline) of Stettler; his two sons Brian (Sheila) of Ponoka and Charlie (Ann) of Calgary; five grandchildren: David (Amanda) Chapman, Christine (Cory) Chemerys, Sara (Tyler) Toliver, Toni (Steven) Hanulik and Cameron(Nicola) Chapman; and five great grandchildren: Chloe Toliver, Sydney Chapman, Grady Chemerys, Benjamin Hanulik and Beau Chapman; two sisters in law Jean Chapman and Eunice Chapman both of Stettler; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and may friends. He lived his entire life in the Stettler area, growing up on a farm just south of town, farming his own land for 30 years and upon retirement serving his community in various capacities. For the past several years he has resided in Heart Haven. Sid’s passion was sports, especially baseball, where he played for many years, and umpired at various levels for over forty years. Over his 96 years Sid touched many lives and he will be dearly missed by family, friends and the whole community. Celebration of Sid’s life was held on August 23, 2010 at the Heartland Chapel of Stettler Funeral Home & Crematorium with Rev. Dr. Lee Sinclair officiating. Brian and Charlie Chapman gave the tribute of their dad along with some of the wonderful memories he left them. Evelyn Shursen sang “My Wild Irish Rose” and Elaine Hennel presented her gift of music. Several musical selections were played and the recessional music was “Take Me Out To The Ballgame.” Interment was at Lake View Cemetery in Stettler, Alberta where Sid was laid to rest beside his beloved Grace. Family and friends gathered in the Heartland Reception Centre for a time of sharing and a light luncheon by Teresa’s Catering. Memorial contributions may be made in Sid’s name to STARS or to a charity of your own choice.
