WOODS

Shirley Ila

1938 - 2011

It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley Ila Woods announces her passing on September 14, 2011. At the age of 73 years, surrounded by her loving family, Shirley lost her battle against cancer. Shirley was born on April 27, 1938 in Calgary, Alberta, and raised on the farm at Priddis. She attended the Priddis school from grades 1 thru 9 and finished her schooling in Calgary. She married Roy Skelton in 1955, father of Peggie, Patsy and Raymond. Shirley was employed at the Royal Bank in Turner Valley until 1974 when she moved and made her permanent home in Big Valley. She worked at the Big Valley Royal Bank until retiring in 1998. Just before Shirley retired, she and Patsy moved to the quarter section on the Fritz Hill road where they started Dun Roamin' Training. Here Shirley was finally able to fulfill her long time childhood passion of owning, training and raising horses. Shirley's love of horses and children made her a prime candidate as a 4-H leader for 22 years. She will be greatly missed for her tremendous contributions and dedication to local 4-H Clubs in Big Valley and area. She also contributed her time as a volunteer to many other organizations in the community. A Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma and friend, Shirley will be forever remembered and cherished in the memories that she made with those she held dear to her heart. Shirley is survived by her devoted children: Peggie Campbell (Dave Boettcher), Patsy Nyuli (Rick Jarmolicz), Raymond Skelton (Shelley Jones); her loving grandchildren: Angie Thomson, Alesha Campbell, Scott Campbell (Heather), Amanda Nyuli (Tyler), Alisha Hennel (Denton), Kelsey Jo Nyuli, Misty Skelton, Shaye Skelton; and her precious great grandchildren: Grady Thomson, Raina Thomson and Liam Bonnett. Shirley was predeceased by her mother Ila Davenport on December 30, 1983 and her father Tom Davenport on August 25, 1999. We will miss you..... forever in our hearts. A memorial service was held at the Big Valley Jubilee Hall in Big Valley, Alberta on Monday, September 19, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. with Mr. Albert Reule officiating. A reception followed in the Big Valley Jubilee Hall where family and friends shared their memories of Shirley. As an expression of sympathy and in loving memory of Shirley memorial contributions may be made to STARS Air Ambulance or to the Breast Cancer Foundation in care of Brennen Funeral Home and Cremation Services P.O.
