BLACK (Galloway)

It is with great sadness that the family of Shirley (Galloway) Black announces her death on April 23, 2010. She passed away peacefully in the Red Deer Hospital with her daughter by her side. She leaves to mourn her loss her beloved husband Lawrence and four children, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild: Barry and grandsons, Darren, Dakota and Wyatt; Laurene (Jim Blaney) and grandchildren; Daniel (great grandson Daxon), Kimberly and Shannon; her much loved Howie; Dwain (Lorna) and grandchildren; Mark, Ashley and Duncan. Shirley also leaves to mourn her sister, Joan Howes (Harvey), numerous nieces and a nephew. She lived her life based on honesty, loyalty and integrity, had a giving heart as big as the great outdoors and along with her family will be sadly missed by a host of friends. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Daisy and Francis Galloway and a sister, Molly Wilson. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the wonderful neighbours and friends who have orchestrated all the support they have offered to mom and dad over the years, particularly over the last couple of years with issues of failing health. They would also like to send their warmest heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Red Deer Hospital ICU (especially to nurses Carla, Jennifer, Lori and Sarah, Dr. Curtis and Dr. Gladie) that treated our mom with the utmost kindness and respect, maintaining her dignity to the end. Funeral services were held at the Heartland Chapel of Stettler Funeral Home and Crematorium on May 1, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Ross Helgeton officiating. Doug and Shirley McKay played and led the singing for "All Things Bright and Beautiful" and "In the Garden." Sharon Kempf gave the Eulogy that was lovingly written by Shirley's family. Shirley's grandchildren were the Honorary Pallbearers and she will be laid to rest at Woodland Cemetery in Botha at a later date. Family and friends gathered together in the Heartland Fellowship Hall for a time of sharing and a luncheon prepared by Brenda's Country Catering. Memorial donations may be made to the Stettler Health Services Foundation - Home Care c/o Stettler Funeral Home, Box 1780, Stettler, AB, T0C 2L0 or directly to Stettler Health Services Foundation, Mail Bag 500, Stettler, AB T0C 2L0.
