SPENCER

Mrs. Sarah "Faye"

1917 - 2011

Mrs. Sarah "Faye" Spencer of Stettler passed away on December 26, 2011 at the age of 94 years. Faye was born in Byemoor on March 19, 1917 to Earl and Sally Stewart who had come to the Byemoor area to homestead from the United States. Faye attended the Gopher Head School there and completed grade 11. Faye married Victor Spencer on October 23, 1938 and together they farmed in the Wolf Hill district. To this union two sons Jim and Ross were born. The family lived on the farm until 1962 when they moved into Stettler where Faye worked for many years at Heart Haven Lodge, the Stettler Motel and at what was then the A.E. Kennedy Auxiliary Hospital. After retiring in 1982, Faye and Vic very much enjoyed their summers camping with relatives and friends. Victor passed away in 1990, and Faye continued to live in her own home and enjoyed spending time doing crossword puzzles and loved to go bowling and spend time in her garden in the summer months. In 2009 due to failing health, Faye moved into Pine Ridge long term care where she lived until her passing. Faye is survived by her loving son Jim and his wife Shirley of Stettler, grandchildren Tracy Ricketts, Gregg Spencer and Steven Spencer; great-grandchildren Spencer Ricketts and Adam Ricketts. Faye is also survived by her sister Jean (Kermit) Thulien of Vancouver and brother Wilbur (Peggy) Stewart of Big Valley as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Victor Spencer, her son Ross Spencer, her parents and four sisters. Funeral services will be held at the St. George's Anglican Church in Stettler on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Jack Schulze officiating.
