Ruby Lois Bradey
1912 – 2011
Ruby passed away peacefully at Red Deer Hospital on December 17, one week short of her 99th Birthday on Christmas Eve. She was born in Gadsby Alberta on December 24, 1912 to John Frederick and Vesta Viola Schroeder. She was the eldest of seven children: Benjamin (Laddie), Elwin (Nick), Winnabel (Winnie), John, June, and Donald (Hugh). Ruby married Charles Bradey on November 20, 1933 residing in the Gadsby area where they raised their three children: Arlene, Louanne and Kenneth. Ruby was very involved in the community spending countless hours volunteering. She was a great cook and her baking was served at various events. She was very active with the Gadsby United Church, where she taught Sunday School and Explorers. Ruby was a life-long member of the Gadsby Omega Circle. In 1962 Ruby and Charley moved to Stettler and in 1979 they retired to Red Deer where they took pleasure in dancing and carpet bowling at the Golden Circle and Downtown House. Ruby loved her yard spending countless hours tending to her flower beds and vegetable garden. Ruby was predeceased by her loving husband, Charley (1995); brothers Laddie, Nick, Hugh and her sister, Winnie. Ruby leaves to mourn her daughters, Arlene (Rob), Louanne (Alyn) and son Kenneth (Linda) as well as her grandchildren; Sheryl, Sandra, Brad (Sheila), Randal, Jana (Bill), Trevor, great-grandchilden Cole, Evan, Powell and Bailey. Also left to mourn are her brother, John, sister, June (Wilbert) and sisters-in-law; Leonore and Frieda Schroeder. In 1996 Ruby moved from her home to Parkdale Lodge where she enjoyed many years of retirement. Most recently, she resided at Red Deer Nursing home, then Michener Extendicare where she received kind and compassionate care. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. at Gadsby Cemetery preceding the funeral service at Brennen Funeral Chapel, Stettler, on Thursday, December 22, 3:00 p.m. If friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Omega Circle Cemetery, Gadsby.
