O’SHEA - Roger O’Shea passed away peacefully on July 14, 2008 at the Centennial Centre in Ponoka, AB. Roger was born in Stettler, AB on April 10, 1932 and lived all of his life in the Stettler area. He is survived by his sister Mae Aumais (Jack) of Florida, three brothers: Neil (Mary) of Trochu, AB, Russell of Edmonton, AB and Tom (Judy) of Stettler; sister-in-law Sheila of Calgary, AB; nieces, nephews, other relatives and numerous friends in and around Stettler. Roger was predeceased by his parents Daniel and Grace and one brother Ross. He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 27 years, was very involved in all their activities and loved their round-ups. Roger was also a member of the Stettler Drop-In Centre where he loved a good game of cards. At any time Roger would play a game of crib for hours with a willing partner. Until the last few years he was also a member of a bowling league, was an excellent bowler and won many trophies. Roger’s other hobbies were his passion for fishing and golfing. In his younger years he played ball for the Liberal team in the position of catcher. He also loved animals, had a dog named “Precious” and a cat named “Wee-Wee” both of whom were family to him. Roger’s friends described him as “goofy” in a good kind of way and always there when you needed a helping hand. Funeral service was held on Thursday, July 24, 2008 at the Heartland Chapel of Stettler Funeral Home. Rev. David Denholm officiated. Elaine Hennel played for the congregational hymns “Amazing Grace,” “Take My Hand Precious Lord” and “One Day At A Time.” Ken Knievel gave a tribute of Roger’s life. Roger will be laid to rest with his parents Dan and Grace O’Shea in the Liberal Cemetery at a later date.
