Mr. Reuben Norman formerly of Donalda, Alberta passed away on May 5, 2012 at Stettler, Alberta at the age of 95 years. He was born on April 5, 1917 at Spruce Coulee to parents, Albertina and Fred Norman. Rueben was raised on the family farm, 5 miles east of Donalda. In the mid fifties he moved to Drumheller and then shortly thereafter he again moved, this time to Mission, BC where he worked in a lumber mill for 18 years. In 1975 he moved back to Spruce Coulee where he lived on the Verner and Pat Norman farm until 2007. At that time he moved to the Heart Haven Lodge in Stettler and resided there until his passing.

Rueben enjoyed his retirement, playing whist in tournaments at Spruce Coulee and crib with his brothers and sisters. He always had a supply of wagon wheels for his grand nieces and nephews and he truly enjoyed family gatherings. Witty and quiet, he was a special man who will be missed by his family and friends. Reuben leaves to mourn his brother, Arne Norman of Stettler and sisters-in-law, Hilda Norman of Stettler, Myrtle Norman of Wildwood and Pat Norman of Stettler; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Albertina and Fred Norman; his sisters: Ruth Komishke, Elizabeth Montgomery, Mary Norman and Astrid Campbell; his brothers: Arnold, Austin, Alrick and Verner.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at the Heartland Chapel of Stettler Funeral Home with Pastor Karl Faltin officiating. Niece Sherralyn Damberger presented family memories of Reuben. Niece Karen Norman played for the congregational hymn “Church in the Wildwood” and for soloist Blaine Paulson as he sang “Amazing Grace.”

Family and friends gathered in the Heartland Reception Centre for a time of fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by Teresa’s Catering.

Interment was held at Spruce Coulee Cemetery with Sherwin Flanders, Blaine Flanders, Colin Norman, Wayne Komishke, Rodney Norman and Ken Norman as Pallbearers.
