In loving memory ~
Raymond Hugh Emblau passed at his home in on July 17, 2022 at the age of 76. Born July 4, 1946 in Carmangay Alberta as the second oldest son of Peter and Georgina Emblau (Wilson) Moving around as a railroad family gave Raymond a wandering spirit who loved to be out with nature fishing and hunting. His childhood and adolescent years filled his life with many stories of simpler times and an unmatched desire to be free.
Raymond married Louise Emblau (Zanutig) in Big Valley, Alberta in 1977 and moved to Vancouver, BC where they had three children. They returned to Alberta in 1982 and resided in Settler and area. As a grandfather of 5, his sense of humor passed along, and he enjoyed making them laugh. He ensured all those around him were fed and happy. He was most proud of his family.
Raymond will be remembered for his sense of humor, a quick wit, and always fast with a smile. He enjoyed making people laugh, a joke or two ready to tell at any moment. Admired for his ability to have a conversation with anyone, he was just as quick to help someone in need. Favorite past times were simple, a good western novel, a hot cup of coffee, cribbage, pool and playing music. Raymond was skilled with fiddle, piano and guitar all by ear and self-taught.
Proud of his Metis heritage he was for many years active with the Metis Nation, Zone 3 serving the community in various aspects. He was passionate about preserving the Metis heritage and fighting for the rights and freedoms of the people.
The last few years were spent quiet and settled at the Hamlets of Red Deer. His daughter Loretta worked tirelessly to ensure he was well taken care of. Raymond was well loved by residents and staff, where through music and stories he continued to make people smile.
He is survived by his sister, Desiree Emblau; wife Louise, children; Loretta Cooper of Red Deer, Crystal MacEachern of St. Albert and Lawrence Emblau of Montreal; his grandchildren, Dennis Cooper, Kaylee and Alexander MacEachern, Lilyan and Felicia Emblau. He will be also be remembered by his long time best friend, Bryan Wasyliw and many nieces and nephews.
