BLOCK

Patricia Kathleen Block

(nee Hussin)

April 19, 1951 - July 7, 2011

Patricia passed away after a short stay in the Drumheller hospital but a courageous and long fought battle with Multiple Sclerosis at home. The strength and determination that Pat brought to each day is an inspiration for anyone that had a glimpse into even a small portion of her life.

Patricia leaves behind her husband of 39 years, Jess Block, their sons, Todd (Chantell) and Chad (Karen) and granddaughters, Morgan and Macy Block. Pat is also remembered by her parents, Bill and Joyce Hussin, brother, Clint (Jennifer) Hussin and her sister, Connie (Darrell) Larsen and their children, Ashley and Dustin (Jenn). Her niece, Jo Ann (Lorne) Winther and daughter, Shelby are very close with both Pat and Jess. Pat was also close with her sister-in-laws, Andrea (Walton) Van Dyke and Christine (Gary) Smith, nieces and nephews, Dee Dee, Jay, Guy, Kelly and their families.

Pat spent most of her childhood on a farm in between Rosebud and Standard. Pat was an athletic, competitive and determined young person. She loved horses and was a very strong rider that could really "sit a horse" as described proudly by Jess.

Patricia and Jess started dating when Pat was in high school. They were married on April 1, 1972. They started their married life on the Stewart Holmes ranch near Hussar and then purchased their place and moved up in 1976 making their home between Rumsey and Scollard.

Patricia and Jess were a hard working team on the farm and Patricia had worked off the farm as well. Her last position was at the Gulf Ghost Pine Plant near Morrin. Pat loved horses her whole life. She enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening and bingo. The visits from the neighbours were an important aspect of the Block's life as it became harder for her to leave the farm. Pat also really enjoyed contact and visits with friends and family that she grew up with. The family is very grateful for the help from Sandy, Rhonda and Sandra over the years. Without intending to do so, Pat taught anyone around her how to be accepting, practical and patient. She faced many hurdles and obstacles along her journey, but with love and caring Pat and Jess stayed together at home until the end.

Patricia's funeral is on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at the Scollard Church, at 2p.m. with a gathering at the Block farm after. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Drumheller Health Foundation - Palliative Care (351-9th St NW, Drumheller, AB T0J 0Y1). Condolences may be sent to:
