Mr. Oris M. Lyster, long time resident of Red Willow was born on March 31, 1926 in Red Willow, Alberta and passed away November 2, 2017 in Stettler, Alberta.

Oris attended Cora Lynn School in Red Willow for nine years and then completed high school in Stettler.

Oris was an outrider and driver with the thoroughbred chuckwagons for 20 years competing in Calgary, all over Alberta and down to Cheyenne Frontier Days in Wyoming. During the winters he was an avid curler.

He married Rae Clark in 1969 and they farmed in the Red Willow district and raised their two daughters Laurie and Twyla. He drove pony chuckwagons and chariots, Belgians and mules doing horse pulls and plowing matches, and using his teams for farm chores. Oris always had a liking for mules and raised quite a few over the years. He was actively involved in the Red Willow Community and was a member of the Cemetery Club.

Oris moved to Heart Haven when health started failing and resided there a couple years then into Heritage House at the Stettler Hospital, followed in 2013 by a move into Points West where he resided for the last 4 years until his passing.

Oris is survived by with wonderful memories his loving family: daughters Laurie Lyster-Squance of Quesnel and Twyla (Gene) Stuckey of Red Willow; three grandchildren: Brent (Kim) Lyster of Blackfalds and their children Abby and Tatum, Dallas Stuckey (Charles Balderson) of Beiseker and Lane Stuckey of Red Willow; brothers Ivor and Lyle Lyster; sisters-in-law Elaine Deringer, Lil Lyster and Audrey Lyster; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and many dear friends.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Rae; parents Reginald and Vada; two sisters Maxine and Twylene; eight brothers: Roger, Gordon, Russell, Bill, Erwin, Jack, Gerald and Argyll.

Funeral Services and tributes to Oris' memory will be held in the Stettler Funeral Home on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 2:00 PM with Don Wudel officiating.
