It is with great sorrow that we announce the loss of Norman Gerard Van Straten who passed away May 21, 2011 in his home in Stettler, Alberta. His passing will be mourned by wife, Juanita; son, Joe (Janalee); brothers, Gilbert (Eileen), Jean (Annie), Eldon (Dale), Louis, Kenneth (Remy); sisters, Germaine, Theresa, Amelia and Yvonne Johnson, Elizabeth (Joe) Knowles, Irene (Dale) Hankins, Bernadette (Doug) Haustein and countless nephews and nieces. Norman was born in Fenn, Alberta and grew up just south of Stettler on the family farm. He lived with his brothers and sisters and learned to work on the land. As a young adult he would help out his brothers and father on their farms as this is what he loved to do. He married Juanita (Buen) on March 27, 1979 in Legazpi City, Philippines. On December 13, 1982 Juanita and Norman had their first and only child, Joseph Andrew. Twenty-four years later they welcomed their new daughter-in-law, Janalee (Neumeier) into their family. Norman was predeceased by his father, Nanning and mother, Irene, sister, Norma and brother Bernard. Norman will be missed by all who knew him and we will remember him. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Christ-King Catholic Church on Friday, May 27, 2011 As an expression of sympathy and in loving memory of Norman memorial contributions may be made to Lakeview Cemetery, Fenn in care of Brennen Funeral Home and Cremation Services P.O. Box 193 Stettler, Alberta TOC 2LO who have been entrusted with the care and arrangements 403.742.3315.
