November 19, 1941 - July 17, 2022
Myra was born November 19, 1941 to Chester and Gertie Bignell, she was the fourth child in a family of 7. She grew up on the family farm north of Stettler and graduated from William E Hay. High school in 1960. She went to work for Dr. Aunger as a dental assistant and remained there until she married the love of her life Jim in 1964. They began their family on the farm south of Big Valley with Bob, Gwen & Bobby Greig.
Darcey made them parents in September of 1965 joined by Marty in July of 1967 and followed by Jacqueline in Nov. 1970. Many winters were spent running with the boys to hockey, figure skating with Jacqueline, and ball games in the summer. Many memories were made camping and water skiing during the summer months, and snowmobiling during the winter months with family and friends.
We will forever remember all the time mom spent sewing and making things for us, the fresh baking that always filled the kitchen, and the countless hours spent in the yard, keeping the garden and flowerbeds tidy, lawn mowed and weed free.
Myra and Jim farmed as a family for decades with Bob, Gwen, and Bobby. She could always be found driving the grain truck and baler during harvest or helping with the cows, and feedlot chores during the winter. They loved the visits with neighbors and family. In spring of 2002, they moved to Big Valley to enjoy a retirement lifestyle.
Myra was an avid volunteer in several organizations in the Big Valley community. She loved the Big Valley Feeders association, the Royal Purple, United Church and the hall board. She dedicated countless hours to all these organizations. She enjoyed golfing in the summer and curling in the winter, she was instrumental in starting the Grannies spiel in BV.
Myra enjoyed the time spent with all of her grandchildren: Chelsey, Stuart, Travis, Ciana, Craig, Kasandra, Jordan, and Miranda. They all held special places in her heart. She was so happy to make the trip to Strathmore June of 2020 to celebrate Travis and Jenn's Wedding.
Dad had a stroke April of 2008 but was able to reside in Big Valley because of the extra help from Mom. They eventually moved to Stettler the fall of 2015, Dad to Points West and mom to a Duplex. Mom enjoyed her volunteer hours, bowling with the seniors' league and visiting with neighbors. After Dad passed in June of 2020, mom moved to Independent Living at Points West and resided there until her passing.
Myra is survived by her children Darcey (Teresa) Greig of Big Valley, Marty (Shelly) Greig of Strathmore and Jacqueline (Alan) Zweifel of Stettler; grandchildren: Chelsey, Travis (Jenn), Kasandra (Wyatt), Stuart, Ciana (Mitchell), Craig, Jordan and Miranda; siblings: Kendall (Shirley) Bignell, Jerry (Annabelle) Bignell, Donnie Bignell, Sharon Duncan and Dixie Bignell; sister-in-law Linda Greig; as well as other relatives and many dear friends.
Myra is predeceased by husband Jim Greig; parents Chester and Gertrude Bignell; infant brother Lorne; father and mother-in-law Robert and Gwen Greig; brothers-in-law: Robert Greig, Richard Greig and Lloyd Duncan; sister-in-law Diane Bignell.
