MARTIN
Mr. Samuel 'Douglas' Martin, formerly of Calgary, passed away on April 25, 2016 at Points West Living in Stettler, Alberta at the age of 84 years. Doug was the second of five children born to Sam and Agnes Martin. Doug met and married Patti (Hronek) Wofford during his baseball scholarship in Oklahoma. To this union two children were born Douglas Denver and Leslie Anne. Doug lived in Calgary and worked most of his career in management positions in the oilfield industry throughout Alberta. Douglas was a long time member of Rotary International, serving as District Governor. Patti and Doug divorced and Doug later married Verneil Campbell and welcomed her daughter Bev into his life. Doug moved to Points West Living in January of 2015.
Douglas was predeceased by his first wife Patti, the mother of his children, his parents Sam and Agnes Martin, his son Douglas Jr., infant brother Bruce and brother in law Frank Self, his second wife Verneil, as well as many cherished friends and family gone before him.
Doug is survived by his daughter Leslie Stevens of Summerland, BC and her daughters Sharena and Linnea; grandson Wesley Martin; sisters Jean Self of Leduc and Bernice (George) Johnson of Roseburg, OR and brother Ross (Kathy) Martin of Stettler; step daughter Bev (Don) Roe and their family of Calgary; other family and friends. At Doug's request no formal funeral will be held but a Celebration of Life will take place on the Martin farm at a later date to be announced on the website; if you wish memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society, Rotary International or your choice c/o Stettler Funeral Home, Box 1780, Stettler, AB, T0C 2L0.
