It is with great sorrow that the families of Melvin Haeberle announce his sudden passing on May 28, 2011 at the Stettler Health Care Centre at the age of 83. Melvin was born on October 31, 1927 at Forestburg, Alberta, the 8th child of James and Mabel Haeberle. He grew up on the farm north of Halkirk and remained on the farm until his retirement in 1984. At that time, he moved into Halkirk and resided there until 2004, when he moved to Stettler. Melvin participated in many activities and enjoyed visiting with his many friends, both old and new. Melvin was a quiet and kind gentleman, who was greatly loved by his family and never missed a family gathering.

He is survived by his brothers, Roy and Jack (Shirley); sisters Verna Dunkle and Beth (Paul) Thibault; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Mabel; two brothers, Archie and Dode; sisters, Etta Jackson, Stella Kneeland and infant sister, Dorothy; two nephews, Jim Jackson and Bruce Haeberle; two sisters-in-law, Elsie Haeberle and Estella Haeberle; three brothers-in-law, Harold Jackson, Lawrence Dunkle and Lawrence Kneeland.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 3, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Halkirk Community Hall with Pastor Jim Culham officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Stettler Health Services Foundation or a charity of your own choice.
