JAMIESON

May

Barbara Nancy May Doan was born on September 7, 1922, in Castor Alberta, the tenth child of Albert and Mathilda Doan. May grew up in the Paintearth Coulees and attended Britain School in her early years and then finished her schooling in Halkirk. In January 1945, she married a neighbor boy, Bill Jamieson that had grown up with her brothers. To this union, seven children were born: Doan, Geraldine, Maxine, Sheryl, Elaine, Melanie and Lyle. Bill worked at the mine and they lived in the housing right across the road from the mine site. When their oldest child was of school age they moved to Halkirk so he could attend school there. After living in Halkirk for about five years they moved to the farm they purchased north of Halkirk. This is where their family of seven children grew up.

May was a very devoted wife and mother. She always had a large garden which was preserved for the winter and there was always fresh baked bread, cakes, cookies, etc. All the children were active in sports and May was always there to cheer them on.

May and Bill always took the children on a summer vacation. They travelled extensively throughout Alberta and BC usually with the Emil Cordel family. They continued to enjoy the summer traveling after the children had all left home, in their camper or fifth wheel trailer. They travelled to Scotland with Bill's niece Eva and her husband Ray Meyer where they visited Bill's birth place. In 1993 May and Bill sold the farm and retired in Halkirk. Due to health reasons, they moved into Heart Haven Lodge in 2008. In 2013, Points West opened and they moved there and resided until her passing on September 8, 2016.

May was predeceased by her parents Albert and Mathilda, her siblings: Eunice and Campbell Lindsay, Urban and Eva Doan, Earl and Belle Doan, Ethel Doan, Melvin and Bernice Doan, Edna and Charlie Matier, Farrell and Glenna Doan, Joe and Myrtle Doan, Gordon Doan and Lyle Doan. She is also predeceased by brothers-in-law and sister-in-laws: Susan and Charlie Marshall, Jean and Cliff Broome, Jock and Peggy Jamieson, Bert and Margaret Jamieson and Dave and Elsie Jamieson. She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years Bill, her children Doan and Sherry Jamieson and families, Geraldine and Don Coulthard and families, Maxine and Bob Baird and families, Sheryl and Ross Bunbury and families, Elaine Jamieson, Melanie and Clark Bunbury and families and Lyle Jamieson and sister-in-law Lydia Doan and several nieces and nephews and friends. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the Halkirk Community Hall, Halkirk, Alberta with Mr. Phil Doan officiating.
