Clarice Maureen Brauer was born March 5, 1920, in Castor, Alberta to Ernest and Bessie Brauer.

She attended May Park, Ingleton, Old Red Willow, Prairie Grove and Botha Schools. She graduated from Edmonton Normal School in 1942 and followed the teaching profession for 30 years, teaching four years at Kindergarten School and 26 years in the Botha School, specializing in instruction in Early Childhood Education.

Maureen married Bruce Leslie Ball in 1942 and enjoyed many happy years together.

Outside of Maureen's teaching her interests are in all kinds of handicrafts. She instructed crafts at Bar Harbor Camp for several years. Maureen is a member of the Retired Teacher's Association, the Botha W.I. and was a life member of Botha United Church Women.

On retirement Bruce and Maureen sold the Ball land to David Payne but kept an acreage on their home quarter. During retirement they enjoyed traveling and trailering and were dedicated workers in all Botha Community affairs as well as in the Botha United Church, Drop In Centre and the Underwood Days.

They also enjoyed bowling, curling, square dancing, floor curling, discing and singing in the Stettler Senior Choir. Bruce and Maureen were very proud of their heritage as both a son and daughter of the early pioneers in Botha, Alberta and especially proud to be Canadian.

Maureen passed away peacefully with her family by her side on March 21, 2018.

Maureen is survived by her sister Joyce Strandquist; numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Funeral services were held at Stettler Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Jan Richardson officiating. Evelyn Strandquist presented her gift of music and singing was led by the United Church Choir, the Senior Choir and the Happy Gang II. Family and friends gathered in the Heartland Reception Centre for a time of fellowship and a luncheon served by the Botha United Church Women.
