SKINNER

1919 - 2009

Our magnificent Mom, Grandma and Moma, Margaret Jean Skinner of Red Deer, passed peacefully into God's eternal care on December 11, 2009 at the age of 89. She is lovingly remembered by her family, daughter Sharon (Frank) Barlow, adopted son Brian, daughter Joyce (Don) Lattery, grandchildren Ryan (Corwin) Barlow, Deanna (Kevin) Barlow, Tyson (Brianne) Lattery, Kyla (Patrick) Flanders, great grandchildren Chelsey and Dylan Flanders and sister Betty Sutley. Margaret cherished and enjoyed the company of her many friends, nieces and nephews of all ages who will all miss her dearly. Margaret was born in Calgary, Alberta and lived in the Big Valley / Stettler area until her move to Red Deer. As a beautiful young woman she fell in love with Alex Skinner when he moved to the valley. This lovely couple enjoyed 44 years of an excellent marriage before Alex transcended on February 1, 1997. Margaret always had an outgoing personality and was very active in the Big Valley Community. She was superintendent of the Big Valley United Church Sunday School, member of the church choir and served on the church board for many years. Mom always worked alongside the UCW ladies for turkey suppers and socials. Margaret's passion was gardening and nature. Another passion Mom had was animals and birds of all kinds. She rescued many baby ducks from her huge strawberry patch. Mom inherited a great love for music and song which she passed down to her family. Margaret was known for her hearty home cooked meals and homemade air buns. She could put a hearty feast on the table in no time when any friends or family arrived at her door, no one was ever turned away. Mom always helped any neighbour or acquaintance that needed assistance of any kind, be it a ride to Stettler, babysitting, cooking or baking, her door was always open to all in need. Margaret had a bountiful pantry of her own canned fruit, vegetables and meat. It is agreed upon by all that family always came first. We adore and love you Mom, Grandma and Moma. A celebration of this beautiful lady's life will take place at EVENTIDE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 4820 - 45th Street, Red Deer on Friday, December 18, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations in honor of the late Margaret Skinner can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada (Northern Alberta), 202, 11227 - Jasper Avenue, Edmonton AB T5K 0L5 or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 101, 5208 - 53 Avenue, Red Deer AB T4N 5K2 or to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 6, 5015 - 48 Street, Red Deer AB T4N 1S9.
