Mrs. Margaret Forbes Groat formerly of Byemoor, passed away Friday, July 15, 2011 in Hanna, Alberta at the age of 81 years. Margaret is survived by her sons David (Yvonne) Groat of Sherwood Park, Alberta and Gary Groat of Byemoor, Alberta. Grandchildren Mathew, Shantel and Allister, brothers-in-law Jack (Gladys) Groat and Gordon (Sharon) Groat and one sister-in-law Verna Nelson as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many very dear friends. Margaret was predeceased by her mother Isabelle Hogg, father Albert Hogg, husband Robert, son Douglas and brother Jim. Margaret was born February 5, 1930 in Craigmyle, Alberta. She attended school grades one through ten at Endiang and after grade ten, Margaret helped her father with the farming and milking of the cows. She also worked in Hanna and in Endiang for a short while. On December 20, 1952, Margaret married Robert Groat and they moved to the Groat farm north of Endiang and together ran the farming operation for many years. Margaret was an accomplished home keeper and in later years after he boys were grown she worked at "Men's Ready To Wear". She was very community minded and for many years was a newspaper correspondent for the surrounding area newspapers. Margaret and Bob moved into Byemoor in 1990 where she remained until moving into the lodge in Hanna. Margaret's children and grandchildren were her greatest enjoyment. Funeral services will be held at the Endiang Community Hall on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. with the Rev. Mervyn Penfound officiating. As an expression of sympathy and in loving memory of Margaret, memorial contributions may be made to the Endiang Community Hall or to a charity of your choice in care of Brennen Funeral Home and Cremation Services, P.O.
