SORENSEN - 1962 - 2009

Mrs. Mardell Luann Sorensen passed away on Jan. 8, 2009 in Stettler, AB at the age of 46 years. She is survived by her husband Gary Sorensen and son Ty Sorensen of Stettler, mother Joyce Fritzke of Stettler, father-in-law Swen Sorensen of Wetaskiwin, AB and mother-in-law Marlene Sorensen of Wetaskiwin, her brother Marlo Fritzke and sister-in-law Erika of St. Joseph, MI and their children Joshua, Joseph, Abigail and Hannah and brother-in-law Neil Sorensen of Wetaskiwin. Mardell was predeceased by her infant brother Randall and her father Oscar Fritzke of Stettler. Mardell was born in Calgary on Dec. 3, 1962 while her parents were living and pastoring in Trochu, AB. Mardell lived here until 1968 when the family pastored a church in Anamoose, ND. It was the first of many moves in her life. In 1974 they moved to St. Joseph, MI which would be their longest place of residence. She attended North Lincoln School and then onto St. Joseph High School where Mardell would graduate.During her last year in St. Joseph School, Mardell took her hairdressing course to become a hairdresser. In 1982 the family left St. Joseph to pastor a church in McCluskey, ND. It was here she opened her own hairdressing shop. It was also in McCluskey that Mardell was able to fulfill a love and dream of having her own horses. Horses were definitely a passion for Mardell. In 1988 her family would leave for Canada where Mardell would leave home as her parents retired to Kelowna, B.C. Mardell moved to live with her brother and family in Calgary, AB. In Calgary she worked for Loewen Windows which lasted for over five years. It was during this time that Mardell met and married her husband Gary Sorensen on Aug. 13, 1994. They had their son Ty on Nov. 17, 1995. Mardell then worked for Caradon Windows and Doors and stayed there for over nine years. She then went to work for Wheatbelt Industries in Airdrie, AB until Gary and her moved to Stettler in 2006. Mardell took a job in Erskine with Shel Bar Electronics until her health forced her from the work force in August of 2008. Throughout Mardell’s life, church was very important. She played piano and clarinet in and for services. In Calgary she was a leader for Awana at the Baptist Church. After she was married, Mardell and Gary taught Sunday School for nine years as well. Mardell loved music, sewing, crocheting and loved to camp with family and friends. Mardell was laid to rest in the Camrose Cemetery in Camrose, AB on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009 at 10 a.m. A funeral service was held at the Erskine Evangelical Free Church, Erskine, AB at 2 p.m. with Pastor Ross Helgeton officiating. A reception and fellowship then took place in the Church reception area and was graciously served by the Erskine Evangelical Free Church Ladies..
