MCNEILL

Malcolm Royce

1941- 2010

Malcolm "Royce" McNeill passed away at the Stettler Hospital and Care Centre with his family by his side, on December 21, 2010 at the age of 69 years. Royce was born in Bentley, Alberta on October 21, 1941 to Robert and Marjorie McNeill. He was 12 when the family moved to Erskine, Alberta in 1953. He worked for various farm families, then in the "oil patch". In 1959 Royce married his best friend Lynne Slifka and to this union three children were born. Royce worked at many places in Alberta, quickly earning the position of driller. He went to Lynes United as a drill stem tester, then trained as a mud engineer and worked on deep wells in Alberta, the Yukon, the United Arab Emerites and in the Gulf of Mexico. In 1979, he purchased a farm with his brother Duncan. Royce continued to check mud on the rigs for five years following the purchase of the farm, but became a full time farmer, which he very much enjoyed. He was involved in the farm and in the community. He was a member of the Stettler Seed Plant Board, the Big Valley Elks Club and the Tail Creek Snowmobile Club to name a few. Royce loved to spend time with his family and friends going on many camping and boating adventures. The Big Valley Jamboree was an event that was never missed, as were the many winter trips to Arizona with Lynne, where they always enjoyed "Happy Hour" with their many dear friends. Royce was a hard working man who very much loved his family, and was a true friend you could always count on. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Royce is survived by his wife Lynne McNeill, three children Robin (Shannon) McNeill, Kevin (Roxanne) McNeill and Lynnette (Brian) Clark; grandchildren Malcolm Clark, Hayley McNeill, Tucker McNeill, Shaylyn McNeill and Carolyn McNeill, brothers Duncan (Marleen) McNeill, Greg (Gailan) McNeill and Cameron (Sandra) McNeill, mother-in-law Charlotte Slifka, sister-in-law Sheila O'Shea, brothers-in-law Chris Slifka, Rick (Kathy) Slifka and Ted (Barbara) Voysey. Royce is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many wonderful friends. He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Marjorie McNeill, father-in-law George Slifka and by brother-in-law Ross O'Shea. A memorial service for the late Royce McNeill was held at St. George's Anglican Church in Stettler on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. with the Rev. Jack Schulze officiating. A reception and fellowship followed the service at the I.O.O.F. Hall in Erskine and was graciously served by Brenda’s Country Catering. As an expression of sympathy and in loving memory of Royce, memorial contributions may be made to the Erskine Cemetery, the Stettler Heath Services Foundation-Palliative Care Unit or to the charity of your choice in care of
