August 16, 1936 - November 8, 2018
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Lylas Evelyn McMurray nee Brown on Nov. 8, 2018 at the age of 82.
Lylas was born in Hardisty, AB on Aug. 16, 1936 to Lillian Ruth Brown. They moved around the province following work which is how Lylas at age five met her future husband. Lylas was always stubborn and when she set her mind to something she got it done.
Lylas did eventually marry the boy she met when she was five. On Sept. 12, 1953, Theodore Colin McMurray and Lylas Evelyn Brown were united in marriage.
Their gypsy blood didn't keep them in one place for extended times. They lived in Calgary, Donalda, Carstairs, Stettler, Lethbridge, Coaldale and finally settling in Red Deer, AB.
Lylas leaves behind her loving husband of 65 years, Ted McMurray, who will miss her beyond words. Her children: daughter Lillian Ruth McMurray of Red Deer, AB, son Theodore John McMurray and wife Vi of Lethbridge, AB, daughter Jaqueline Kathleen Belford and Rod Conley of Frankfort, ON, Ken McMurray of Red Deer, AB and Lylas and Scott McKnight of Stettler, AB. Grandchildren: Dawne Barkaskas of Red Deer, AB, Patricia Barkaskas and Derek Gladwin of Vancouver, BC, Daniel Barkaskas of Red Deer, AB, Ray and Carmen Lucas of Calgary, AB, Arron Belford of Calgary, AB, Jason and Dani Belford of Calgary, AB, Sarah and Brendan Hunter of Calgary, AB, Ryan McMurray and Sarah-Jane Abraham of Donalda, AB, Brandon McMurray and Krystal Andres of Camrose, AB, Mark McKnight of Stettler, AB and Jessica McKnight and Chad Crowshaw of Calgary, AB. Great-Grandchldren: Taize Barkaskas-Klein of Red Deer, AB, Cassie and RJ Lucas of Calgary, AB, Madison and Sean Belford of Calgary, AB, Mirabella, Tennesson and Evelyn Hunter of Calgary, AB. Siblings; Bill and Gena Brown of Stettler, AB, Carole and Peter Belford of Calgary, AB, Pat and Red Genik of Red Deer, AB, Bob Brown and Stephanie Brockley of Gadsby, AB. She leaves to mourn a host of family, friends and staff at Michener Center.
