Lorence Pochylko

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Lorence Pochylko…aka Feeder. Lorence passed away suddenly at his home on June 19. He was 60 years old.

Lorence was born June 3, 1957 in Stettler Alberta to Andy and Evelyn Pochylko. He was raised on a farm in the Union Hall district south-west of Erskine. After wearing out a couple "hammermills" feeding steers…hence the nickname Feedlot Steer, which was shortened to Feedlot or Steer and then Feeder…he decided his fortune would be found elsewhere.

He started dating the love of his life in '77. Cherie Douglas, the little girl from the school bus had grown up. They were married in November 1979 and a lifelong partnership had begun. Lorence sold farm equipment for Bill's Farm Supplies, Fords for Rondel Ford and he and Cherie ran the "Auto Hut" until the mid 80's. It was then he entered the world of "hydrocarbon extraction"…he thought that sounded more sophisticated than oil patch.

He started working on a construction crew with Tom Chadwick…which migrated into a career with Pan Canadian; operating a plant south of Halkirk and eventually driving to Hardisty (hard and dusty) daily. After pressure to move to Calgary, Lorence decided it was time to move on. He went back into sales with Chadco, a company that changed ownership several times. 5 years ago he began selling for TKS in Stettler. Feeder was well known and respected throughout the industry.

His family was always his pride and joy. With Cherie and their 2 sons, Steve and Scott, they started Foam Feeders in 2004. Lorence was very proud of what his two boys accomplished and his and Cherie's ability to help them on their way in life.

Lorence was pre-deceased by his brother in law Ronnie Douglas, his maternal grandparents Jake and Edith Goertzen, his paternal grandparents Steve and Mary Pochylko, his father in law Gordon Douglas, his father in law Bill Quartly, his father Andy Pochylko and his precious Dolly dog.

He leaves to mourn his wife Cherie, sons Steve (Carrie) and Scott (Keisha), brothers Richard (Gail) and John (Krista), mother Evelyn, mother in law Leona Quartly, brother in law Keith (Bonny) and sister in law Debbie (Kevon). He has also left behind many nephews, nieces and friends who will no longer have his "wisdom" to listen to.

A celebration of Lorence's life was held at Stettler Funeral Home on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 2:00 PM with long time friend Rob Grandfield officiating. Several friends, family members and co leagues gave loving tributes. Lorence was laid to rest at Lake View Cemetery. Family and friends gathered for a time of fellowship and a luncheon by Teresa's Catering. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your own choice c/o Stettler Funeral Home, Box 1780, Stettler, AB, T0C 2L0.
