July 17, 2011

CASSIDY

On Sunday July 17, 2011 (Buzz) Leonard Joseph Cassidy passed away with his wife and children by his side at the age of 77 years.

Buzz will be remembered by his wife Gwen of 55 years and his five children Tom (Yvette), Barb, Pat (Carl Graham), Tim (Cindy) and Matt (Apryl), all of Stettler. And by all his grandchildren, Brock Michelle, Thomas, Dane, MacKenzie, Kase, Lundie, Maddie, Quinton, Brooker, Randi, Brogan, Quade, Lowen, Parker, Drew, and great granddaughter Dylan.

He also leaves to mourn his brother Al (Stella), Spitz (Aleta), Frank (Carline), Bill, Lyle (Gayle), sister-in-law Nancy, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Buzz was born February 12, 1934 at the family farm in the Linda Hall area, the second son of eight boys and one girl to Tom and Viv Cassidy. He was raised and lived in the Stettler area where he attended school in his early years and helped on the family farm.

Buzz met Gwen his bride to be in 1955 at a rodeo and they were married in 1956 and moved to Warden to start their life and family together. They soon bought a farm south of Stettler where they raised their family and lived till his passing.

Buzz enjoyed hockey, saddle bronc, curling and was an avid hunter in his younger years, and any activity that him and his brothers could do together.

His career to support his family was farming in every aspect including dairy, cattle and grain, which kept him a very strong man. Never a man you want to arm wrestle.

His quick wit and comebacks will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral Mass was held at Christ King Catholic Church Friday, July 22, 2011 at 2:00 PM with Father Arlan Parenteau officiating. Greg Schroeder was adult server; Al and Stella Cassidy presented the gifts; Pat Cassidy gave words of remembrance; readers were Jodi Davidson and Elizabeth Corbett; soloist Gary Fix sang Amazing Grace; musicians were LeeAnn Kinderwater, Joan Rushton and Debbie Simon. Honorary Pallbearers were Vic Stuckey, Bill Kirtley, Alex Gerlitz, Angus Currie, Walt Shuckburgh, Dan Hebert and Lyle Smith; pallbearers were his grandsons Dane Graham, Kase Graham, Quinton Blundon, Brooker Blundon, Lowen Cassidy, Brogan Cassidy, Parker Cassidy, Thomas Cassidy, Drew Cassidy and Quade Cassidy, as Buzz was laid to rest at Lake View Cemetery, Stettler, Alberta.

Memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation, Alberta Cancer Foundation - Red Deer Clinic or a charity of choice. Family and friends gathered at Linda Hall for a time of fellowship and a luncheon by the Linda Hall Ladies.
