June 9, 1938 - May 28, 2011

Laverne passed away at Centennial Hospital, Ponoka, Alberta with his son, Shane at his side. The last two years of his life were spent in long term care facilities in Stettler and Ponoka.

Laverne is survived by his wife of 48 years Rene; two sons Darcy (Kim) of Lethbridge and Shane (fiance Marci) of Erskine; granddaughters Paige and Raquel of Lethbridge; brother Stan Snideman of Innisfail and sister Dorothy Harrison of Innisfail; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life for Vern was held Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at the Heartland Chapel of Stettler Funeral Home with Pastor Don Wudel of Heartland Cowboy Church officiating. Reg and Betty Scarrott prepared and delivered a wonderful tribute of Laverne's life. Vern's family presented a slide presentation of Vern's photos through the years.

Family and friends gathered in the Heartland Reception Centre for a time of sharing and a luncheon prepared by the family of Alberta Prairie Steam Train and cousins and friends of Rene. As an expression of sympathy and in loving memory of Laverne, memorial donations may be made to local charities - Fire Department, Ambulance or Dialysis Unit at the Stettler Hospital.
