Ken was born in Toronto and moved with his family to Red Deer at an early age. He married Inga Klassan and they had three sons: Darryl, Keith and Grant, all born in Edmonton. As a family they moved to Alix in 1967.

His love of hockey and horses led him to be involved in the community through coaching as well as volunteering in the Horse Club. Ken enjoyed dancing, snowmobiling, participating in gymkhanas, trail riding and was always ready lend a helping hand to anyone.

He worked at a variety of jobs throughout his life: boiler maker, brakeman for CN, barber, plumbing and heating, farming, Department of Highways and for the County of Stettler.

After Inga's death Ken married Helen Muhlbach in 2007. They have lived in Stettler where Ken volunteered at the Museum and continued to enjoy dancing, camping, fishing, and some traveling. He greatly enjoyed and appreciated Helen's extended family who live in the surrounding area.
