KERBES

Kenneth A. Kerbes passed away in Calgary December 2, 2011. Ken is the son of Mike and Alma Kerbes from the Big Valley area, the eldest of their 12 children. He attended school in Aunger, Big Valley and Erskine, before serving with the Calgary Tank Regiment in 1944 and then in 1946 the RCAF where he was in the Arctic Circle, Churchill, Cold Lake, France, Portage la Prairie and Moose Jaw until retiring in Calgary in 1977. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hazel (Knapp), daughter, Pearl-Anne (Don), granddaughter, Alexandra (David), six great grandchildren, 2 step granddaughters, brothers, Deane (Irene) and Eldon (Donna), sisters, June Ekelund (Bob), Leila Stanich (Bob), Donna Sommerfeld (Ron), Margaret Pelto (John) and Beverly Rosichuk. Ken was devoted to his family and providing for their well being. He enjoyed traveling with the motor home and toured most of North America. He was thrilled to be able to visit extended family in Estonia and friends in Europe. When he could, he spent time in the work shop building all sorts of practical and whimsical items. He was unbeatable when playing cards, especially cribbage and bridge. He was an active member of Altadore Baptist Church in Calgary with his memorial service there Wednesday December 7, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Internment at Stettler Lakeview Cemetery December 8, 2011 at 1:00 pm.
