YAROSLAWSKY

Mrs. Katherina "Katie"

1915 - 2009

Mrs. Katherina Yaroslawsky of Stettler passed away at the Pine Ridge long term care on Friday, September 18, 2009 at the age of 94 years. She leaves to mourn her passing her son David of Stettler, grandchildren Crystal (John) Babin, Shelley Yaroslawsky and David Yaroslawsky Jr., Joseph (Donna) Daigle, Bev Ressler (Phill), Ilana (Glen) Strandquist, James (Darlene) and Ronald (Kayla) Yaroslawsky and sixteen great-grandchildren. Katie was born at home February 25, 1915 in the Thorhild area where she grew up and went to school. She completed Grade 6 and then lived with her oldest sister Julia. Katie moved to Edmonton where she met and married Lazar (Alex) Yaroslawsky on May 17, 1938. After moving several places, they lived at Nordegg where Alex worked in the coal mines. After Alex had an accident in the coal mines, the family moved again. Alex gained employment with the CPR and during this time Sonja and Victor were born. They moved to Hays and then Rosemary where Katie worked in the station and always took care of everyone plus her responsibilities to the family. Throughout their time with the railway, they lived many places like Bassano, Taber and Retlaw, where the family stayed for almost 20 years. Their youngest son was born and raised here. Katie always kept herself busy by taking care of the house and numerous cleaning jobs. In 1976, Katie and Alex decided to move to be closer to the grandchildren in Stettler. In Stettler, she was employed as a chambermaid at the Stettler Hotel and The Royal. Katie made sure that all her family was taken care of and would always help when all the grand kids were born. This was just typical of what kind of person she was. Katie made sure to keep in contact with all of the family as she was the glue that kept the family together. Katie developed many friendships in the community and she cherished everyone. Katie lived at home as long as she could until the age of 93. Her last place of residence was at the Pine Ridge Nursing Home until the day of her passing. A funeral service for the late Mrs. Katherina Yaroslawsky was held at the Stettler United Church on Friday, September 25, 2009 at 10:30 A.M.
