Joseph Abel was born on June 8, 1926 in Compeer Alberta to parents Katherine (nee Keller) and Wendelin Abel. Joe passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the age of 95 on Monday, September 13, 2021.
He was the 3rd youngest of 12 children and was predeceased by his wife Anna Maria, parents and sisters Johanna, Sibbald, Mary, Katie, Rose, and Monica, brothers John, Bill, and George, and grandson Derek Abel.
He is survived by his elder brother Lambert and younger sister Regina. He married Anna Maria Heck on June 17, 1952. Joe and Anne had nine children. Dwayne (Sue) Abel, Sharon (Dan) Koleyak, Jim (Marilynn) Abel, Kathy (Doug) Stewart, Jhon (Denise) Abel, Marianne (Jeff) Sawatzky, Jerry (Cheryll) Abel, Laurie (Lloyd) Stamm, Terry (Roxanne) Abel. As well as 23 grandchildren and more than 20 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Lakeview Cemetery, Stettler, where Joe was laid to rest beside his beloved wife Anna Maria. Friends and family then gathered at the Stettler Funeral Home for a time of fellowship and luncheon.
