John Baker Matheson passed away on September 12, 2019 at the age of 82 years.
John came from a large family of Scottish Canadians. He was predeceased by his parents: Edward (Scotty) and Margaret Matheson; sisters: Meg, Bessie, Elspeth, Edna, Janet, and Ruth; infant brother James; brother Jim; in-laws: Ida Matheson, Jean Matheson, Mary Matheson, Robert Hunter, Robert Grant, Ashley Gibson, Palmer Rake, and Jack McBeath; seven nieces and nephews.
He is survived by one sister Mary, and two brothers, Ed and Bill.
John's Matheson clan was large. He was Uncle Johnny to a brood that included 25 nephews and nieces; 52 great nephews and nieces; 47 great-great nephews and nieces; and one great-great-great niece. He enjoyed hosting family in his home in Donalda.
John also had a large community connection (a second family) in the Village of Donalda where he grew up and returned to as the site for his business, John's Vending. He especially loved holding court over coffee in John's Vending with community members who wanted to come in for a chat.
John had a chosen family of the Bernards: Danny, Melinda, Heather, Greg and Emerson who worked with him and offered support that was a blessing in John's life. The Matheson family is grateful.
Graveside Service will be held at the Donalda Cemetery, Donalda, Alberta On Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 1:00 pm. everyone is welcome. Lunch will follow at the Donalda Community Hall.
