HANSEL, Joe Orn


Joe Hansel of Stettler, Alberta was born on March 27, 1930 at Gadsby, Alberta to parents Pearl and Lloyd Hansel. Joe passed away peacefully on June 15, 2017 with his family by his side at the Stettler Hospital and Care Centre

Joe grew up on the family farm south of Gadsby. Joe worked at various jobs until buying a farm a half mile south of Gadsby. Not long after that Joe married the love of his life, Maxine Haner on January 25, 1956. From this union were born four children, eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren whom he loved and was so proud of. They were his world. Joe enjoyed farming, raising purebred polled Herefords, playing ball, umpiring ball games, curling, camping, snowmobiling, bowling and watching the Blue Jays. Joe loved playing cards especially the crib game every morning with Mom to see who was boss for the day.

Joe is survived by his loving family: wife Maxine Hansel of Stettler; daughters: Deborah Bince of Lethbridge, Susan (Jim) Renschler of Botha and Aleta (Eugene) Nichols of Botha; son Lyne (Marina) Hansel of Gadsby; grandchildren: Daniel Rand of Medicine Hat, Teresa Lees of Toronto, Shelley Swaren of Botha, Jody (Michelle) Renschler of Gadsby, Kelly (Michelle) Nichols of Clive, Rusty Nichols of Botha, Christopher (Amber) Hansel of Glendon and Collin (Becky) Hansel of Erskine; great grandchildren: Samantha Carpenter, Vincent Arelis, Victoria Arelis, Jayden Swaren, Madison Swaren, Charlie Renschler, McKenna Renschler, Everly Renschler, Terrance Nichols, Sierra Nichols, Raeleigh Nichols, Nash Nichols and Gavin Hansel;

sister Lavina (Gary) Larson of Stettler; brother Bill (Joyce) Hansel of Gadsby; sisters in law: Elpha (Ron) Senft of Stettler, Blanche McKay of Stettler and Annice Erichson of Red Deer; numerous nieces and nephews; other family members and many dear friends. Joe was predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Pearl Hansel, brother Vic, mother and father in law Russell and Pearl Haner, sister in law Mildred McMillan, brother in law Ron Erichson.

A celebration of Joe's life will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Stettler United Church with Jan Richardson officiating. Donations may be made in memory to Gadsby Omega Circle or a charity of your choice c/o
