Joanne Hermus

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Joanne Hermus. Joanne Cornelia Graumans was born on December 7, 1929 in Etten-Leur, Holland to parents Dimphna Maria (Bartels) and Cornelius Petrus Graumans, the eldest of twins and fifth of ten children. On February 19, 1955 Joanne and Anthony (Tony) Hermus were wed in Holland and shortly after immigrated to Canada. After laboring as hired hands on various farms in southern Alberta, they purchased and moved onto their own farm in the Scollard/Big Valley area in 1964. They retired to Stettler in 1992. Joanne (Oma) loved the outdoors and farm life and she would admire God's nature as she walked. She loved her flowers and her garden and shared much from both. Her door was always open for family and friends; for coffee, playing cards, or just a good visit. Oma loved to travel - across Canada and through USA, numerous trips back to Holland and spent 23 seasons with Dad at their home in Arizona. She was never too busy though to attend grandchildren's award ceremonies, sporting events, 4H shows, graduations and weddings. Those fourteen grand-children and her two great grandchildren were the treasures of her life.

Joanne passed away on July 13, 2017 at the age of 87 years in the Stettler Hospital and Care Centre, surrounded by her loving family. Joanne will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 62 years Tony of Stettler; children: Dimphy (Cliff) Benusic of Camrose, Louis (Jan) Hermus of Big Valley, Mary Anne (Ron) Korn of Edmonton and Susan (Graham) Kathol of Drayton Valley; daughter in law Carol Hermus (Terry); grandchildren: Natasha (Justin) Harty and their daughters Rebecca and Kaitlyn, Michael (Anelyse) Benusic, Chelsea Hermus (Bradley), Braden Hermus, Breanne (Cody) Kihn, Jared Hermus (Kori), Logan Hermus, Brock Hermus, Rachel Korn, Alyssa (Michael) Schatz, Anthony (Helena) Kathol, Amariah Kathol, Alanna Kathol and Arika Kathol; five sisters; one brother; numerous nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends. Joanne was predeceased by her son Ken Hermus in 2007. She was an exceptional lady and while her passing leaves a large void in our hearts, she has left us with beautiful memories.

A Prayer Vigil for Joanne was held on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 7:00 PM at the Christ King Catholic Church, a Funeral Mass will be held today, Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Christ King Catholic Church, Stettler, Alberta with Father Don Ihekwoaba as Celebrant.
