In loving memory ~

Joan Mary (nee Bulmer) Petersen

August 23, 1927 ~ May 12, 2025

Joan Mary Petersen was born at Iron Springs, Alberta where she attended Granite Falls School and later graduated from Picture Butte High School. After high school she worked briefly at St. Michael's Hospital in Lethbridge and then trained as an X-ray technician in Calgary. She worked and made lifelong friends in Grande Prairie, Alberta and Sacramento, California before settling in Stettler where she continued her career. Here, Joan met and married Paul Petersen in 1958; thus starting a new chapter in her life with her new husband and his three children.

Joan played bridge and golf for many years and was actively involved in a friendly investment club. She and Paul spent many enjoyable summers at Buffalo Lake socializing with and entertaining friends and family, playing cards and reminiscing during Happy Hour. Joan continued to spend summers at her cottage for many years following Paul's death. She turned a good hand in the kitchen, was an avid reader and kept up on the news, sports and politics of the day and enjoyed a good discussion of them all. At the age of 93, she left her apartment and good friends there to move into Points West Living Stettler.

Visits with Joan, her caring ways, wit and sense of humor will be missed by her three stepchildren: Carol (Don) Gillespie, Sandra Berg and Ron (Nancy) Petersen; their children and grandchildren. For the same reasons nieces and nephews: Ken (Lynne) Wilson, Carol (Ken) Olsen, Brian (Pearl) Wilson, Beverley Mack, Susan (Randy) Carlson and Patricia (James) Buckhotz and their families will miss her as well.

Joan was predeceased by husband Paul in 1984; parents John and Nettie Bulmer; step son-in-law Jim Jenkins (2015); sisters: Jean (John) Cox, Grace (Fred) Wilson, Doris Bulmer, Helen Mack, Madge (Gordon) Prest and Iris (Jack) Wilson; brother William (Vera) Bulmer; and nephew Roger Mack.

As she wished, no service will be held.

A family graveside gathering will take place at a later date at the Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge, Alberta. Memorial Donations can be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
