September 29, 1929 - June 18, 2022
In loving memory ~
Jean was born on September 29, 1929 in Hemaruka, Alberta to parents Edith and John Erickson. She passed away on June 18, 2022 in Leduc, Alberta at the age of 92 years.
Jean was a wonderful woman who will be remembered for her happy and positive outlook on life. She was a great cook and baker and many people have stopped in hoping for some fresh baked buns with coffee. Jean befriended many individuals who needed support and was well known for visiting neighbours and friends in hospital and long-term care.
Jean was raised in the Veteran area and went to Camrose Business School at the age of 14. At 15 she was ready to go to work and was always grateful to Lloyd Williams for offering her a position at the Stettler School Board. She was a teenager holding a fulltime position but enjoying friends and the many dances put on in the area. She married John Jackson, RCAF, in 1948 and had two children, Sharon and Scott. They resided in Botha and Jean was always active in the community. She was the secretary treasurer for the Village for 15 years - council meetings were held in her home. She was also very active within the United Church and eventually received a lifetime membership with the UCW. In 1968, Jean returned to work, for the Alberta Highway Patrol in an administrative position. She loved her job and was an example for anyone who hates going to work. After 18 years, the office was moved to Calgary and Jean retired. But was she done? At age 78 she became the mayor of Botha! John passed in 2006 and Jean had to reinvent her life as a widow. She garnered her internal strength and started going to old time dances alone. Soon enough, she had a group of friends and Charlie Thompson became her dancing partner. They spent their time at many dances in the surrounding community. Due to health reasons, the family home was sold, and Jean moved to Paragon Place and resided there for two years, followed by three years in Leduc Extendicare. Thank you to both facilities for their care. She loved life and family - especially her grandchildren. Jean will be missed dearly and if love is a measure, she had the best life ever.
Jean will be forever missed by her loving family, daughter Sharon Strickland of Leduc; son Scott (Donna) Jackson of Clive; grandchildren Matthew (Anne) Strickland of Boston, MA and their daughter Makena, Lindsay Strickland of Fort Saskatchewan, Ryan (Markita) Jackson of Airdrie and their children Mason and Reese, and Kyle (Kelsy) Jackson of Airdrie and their children: Avery, Ashton and Addison; sister Doris Ferguson of Vancouver, numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Jean was predeceased by her husband John Jackson, brother Bob Erickson and son in law Rick Strickland.
