ORTMAN

Jean Evelyn (nee McTavish) Ortman passed away with all of her family at her side on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the age of 69 years. Jean was born May 1, 1942 in Daysland, Alberta, the third child of Don and Evelyn McTavish. On March 17th 1959 she met the love of her life, Walter Earl Ortman. He courted her until June 17, 1960, when they were married in the Daysland United Church. From this marriage they were blessed with four children, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Through the 51 years of their marriage, Jean loved to play crib and other card games, camp, travel and look at the stars with her family and friends. She loved to bake for Earl and for the grandchildren. She enjoyed going to the children's, grandchildren's and honorary grandchildren's sports, dance recitals, fencing tournaments and other activities. Jean was known as grandma to many children she helped care for or she met at the kids activities and she loved and had hopes and dreams for them all. She was a 4-H leader, a seamstress, a child care provider and a truly loved woman who touched many lives with her warmth, humor, and caring. Each of her grandchildren were wrapped in grandma's love their entire lives with the hundreds of articles of clothing she lovingly stitched for them. Even when they went to college she watched over them with a patch work quilt made especially for each child. She also filled their tummy's with the world's greatest buns, and cinnamon rolls. They were so good one grandchild said, when she passed, "I guess God needed some cinnamon buns so he took grandma." Left to mourn her passing are, her loving husband Earl, children Larry (Lorraine) Ortman, Debbie (Glen) Nelson, Norm (Leslie) Ortman and Barb (Heath) McKay. Ten grandchildren, Justene, Coraley, Madison Ortman, Theresa and Matthew Nelson, Lynsey (Shane) Lee, Ryan (Megan) Lee, Ashley (Chase) Dylan, and Caitlyn McKay, two great grandchildren, Chase and Dominick. Brothers, Jim (Helen) McTavish, Bruce (Julie) McTavish, Gordon (Pat) McTavish, Sister, Diane (Eugene) Jackson, and one sister-in-law Ilene (Don) Bauman. As well as a host of other family, friends, and people whose lives she has touched. Funeral services will be held at the Erskine Evangelical Free Church on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Ross Helgeton officiating.
