BOREK

James "Jim" Borek passed away peacefully with his loving wife Ethel by his side on October 16, 2009 at the age of 69 year. Jim was born March 22, 1940, the third child of Frank and Nellie Borek. The Borek family had a mixed farm of grain and livestock in the Stettler area where Jim was taught a hard work ethic that served him well his entire life. Jim took over the family farm in 1962 at the age of 22 years when his father passed away. Jim loved to farm and in 1970 he ventured into Purebred Limousin cattle. He received many awards for the cattle he raised and showed; and by the mid eighties he had built his own sales barn and was able to show and to sell his stock at home. In December 1990 while doing routine work on the farm Jim fell from a fence and severed his spinal cord resulting in a disability that left him permanently in a wheelchair. The family moved to town and despite his injury Jim continued to farm the family farm with the help of good neighbours and friends. Jim loved to maintain a meticulous garden at home; he learned about computers and read a newspaper everyday to keep on top of the world. Jim loved his children and grandchildren and loved their family time together. Jim is survived by his loving wife Ethel; children: Tony Borek, Shauna Orton, Diana (Wayne) Slemp, Jonathon (Laurie) Orton and Bettyanne (Dan) Measures; grandchildren: Jesse, Lee, Tim and T.J. Borek, Mitchell, Erik and Courtney Orton, Joel Baerg, Joshua, Sarah and Lori Orton, Cody Borek, Hunter and Kristen Measures; sisters Frankie (Wally) Gacek, Elizabeth Borek and sister in law Rosella Borek; as well as other relatives and many friends. Predeceased by his parents Frank and Nellie Borek, infant daughter Bonnie Jo, son Timothy Borek, brother Kenn Borek, niece Carlene Walker and daughter in law Della Borek. The family would like to express a special thank you to Rev. Jack Schulze, to Dan Measures, Laurie Orton and David P. MacNaughton for their words of comfort. Thank you to pallbearers Jesse Borek, Lee Borek, Jim Borek, Cody Borek, Mitchell Orton and Joshua Orton. Thank you to Stettler Funeral Home and staff for comfort, wisdom and support; to organist Elaine Hennel, to Teresa's Catering for the excellent luncheon and all the friends who gave floral arrangements, memorial donations, gifts of food, cards and kind words. Your thoughtfulness is appreciated. Funeral services were held at the Heartland Chapel of Stettler Funeral Home on October 22, 2009 at 2:00 PM, with Rev, Jack Schulze officiating. Jim was laid to rest at Lake View Cemetery in Stettler, Alberta. Memorial donations may be made to STARS c/o Stettler Funeral Home, Box 1780, Stettler, AB, T0C 2L0.
