DAWSON - Ivan was born Jan. 4, 1918 at Wasel, AB on a farm along the North Saskatchewan River by the Shandro Ferry Crossing. He attended school at Bavilla, AB. As a young man, Ivan went to Edmonton, AB and obtained his first employment with Steele Briggs Seed Co. In 1940, he went to work as the dry goods manager in a general store in Bluffton, AB. This was the beginning of his career in the retail trade and management. And it was there Ivan met Hazel Jensen and in 1944 they were married. In 1953, Ivan and Hazel, along with their son Larry, who had recently started school, moved to Stettler, AB where Ivan managed the Co-op store for over 13 years and Robinson Little Store for 15 years. In 1983, at the age of 65, it was time for Ivan to retire and for him to pursue some of his other interests and to do some travelling. Ivan and Hazel were very fortunate and were able to travel to, and to see, many parts of the world, including Asia, Australia/New Zealand, the British Isles, continental Europe, the Scandinavian countries, Africa and the Middle East and Mexico. They also “snowbirded” for 16 winters in Mesa, AZ. Ivan’s hobbies included gardening, hunting and fishing and lapidary work.
