As a young man, Ivan went to Edmonton, AB and obtained his first employment with Steele Briggs Seed Co. In 1940, he went to work as the dry goods manager in a general store in Bluffton, AB. In 1953, Ivan and Hazel, along with their son Larry, who had recently started school, moved to Stettler, AB where Ivan managed the Co-op store for over 13 years and Robinson Little Store for 15 years. Ivan and Hazel were very fortunate and were able to travel to, and to see, many parts of the world, including Asia, Australia/New Zealand, the British Isles, continental Europe, the Scandinavian countries, Africa and the Middle East and Mexico.
