1938 - 2010

Mrs. Irene Elizabeth Guynup (nee Hitchcock) of Alix, Alberta passed away at the Lacombe Health Center on Friday, January 29, 2010 at the age of 71 years following a courageous struggle with cancer. Irene was born in Empress, Alberta and spent most of her life growing up in the Rocky Mountain House area. She met the love of her life Ed Guynup in Red Deer and they were married on August 12, 1958 and had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2008. Irene enjoyed a very full and happy life with her husband and six children. She also had many extended family members through out the years who all affectionately called her "Mrs. G" or "Mom". Irene had many interests some of which were fishing, camping, attending auction sales, dancing and was a huge Rodeo fan. She was also a great collector of many things however was especially proud to show off her salt and pepper shaker collection which was comprised of over 1500 sets! Irene had various jobs throughout her lifetime. In 1992 she opened the Alix Bottle Depot and operated it until her passing. She was very proud to be a member of the A.W.I. and was committed to this group for over 25 years. Irene was a fun and loving person who will be greatly missed by family and friends alike. Irene leaves to mourn her passing her loving husband and life long friend Ed Guynup of Alix, her six beautiful children Derle Guynup of Alix, Ross (Kris) Guynup also of Alix, Kayla (Peter) Ell of Lacombe, Kendele (Carol) Guynup of Delburne, Michael (Jolene) Guynup of Alix and Darren (Stacey) Guynup of Lacombe. Grandchildren Terra (Burns) Frenzel, Dallas Ell, Ashten Layden, Shane Guynup, Jessi Guynup, Cole Guynup, Victoria Guynup, Brady Guynup and Aspen Guynup. One sister Ivy and sisters-in-law Gladys and Olive. Irene was predeceased by her parents Sophia and Emil Hitchcock and sister Muriel Mainland. A celebration of Irene¹s life will be held at the Alix Community Hall on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at 1:00 P.M.
