Mrs. Ilene Mildred Wagner was born at Gainford, Alberta on the 26th day of April 1922. She took her schooling in the Coal Branch Region near Edson, Alberta. Her working days involved working with the handicapped people who resided in the Deer Home in Red Deer, to working in the Post Office at Halkirk. Her many skills were evident as a designer of clothing, as a writer of interesting stories, as a cook in the kitchen and as a singer of hymns to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In 1978 she married Jack Wagner and the two of them enjoyed curling, travelling and especially each others company.

Ilene was predeceased by her husband, Jack Wagner and her four sisters and one brother. She leaves to mourn her passing the children of her first marriage: Donnie (Pauline) of Red Deer, Janie (Ray) of Fort McMurray and Blaine of Vancouver; seven grandchildren, seventeen great grand-children and one great, great grandchild; sisters’ Ruby (Jake) Troudt of Stony Plain and Myrtle Saunders of Edmonton. She was a wonderful lady who loved her family deeply and will be fondly remembered and missed. Funeral services were held at Stettler Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 with Rev. Mervyn Penfound officiating. Evelyn Strandquist played for the congregational hymns. Son, Blaine Garrett wrote a loving tribute to his mom. Interment was at Omega Cemetery with Mel Haeberle, Roy Haeberle, Percy Heer, Estelle Haeberle, Katie Schultz and Terry Stone as Honorary Pallbearers. Family and friends gathered at the Heartland Fellowship Hall for a time of remembering, sharing and a light luncheon.
