June 23, 1930 - October 11, 2018
Howard Cogan Usher, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend passed from among us October 11, 2018 in Calgary, AB at the age of 88 years.
Howard was born to Charles and Helen Usher on June 23, 1930 in Drumheller, AB. He grew up ranching with his parents and brother Charles and sister Trudy first on the Thumb Hill Ranch and then on the banks of the Red Deer River west of Big Valley. In the late 1950s Howard returned to school first in Calgary and then at the University of Alberta in Edmonton; graduating from St. Stephen's College in 1962 to become a United Church Minister.
While in Edmonton he met Patricia Hoskin, love flourished, and they were married Sept 16, 1961. They were blessed with three children, Anne (Alun), Doug (Maureen) and Ken (Carol), as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In his time as a United Church minister he served congregations in Alberta and British Columbia.
We will treasure his story telling, his quiet humor, his skill at making things with his own hands, his love of the outdoors and trains, and many friendships through the years.
A celebration of his life was held at St. Thomas United Church (100 Hawkwood Boulevard N.W., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 3:00 p.m.
