Mrs. Hazel Doreen Congdon passed away on Friday, January 21, 2011 at the age of 83 years. Hazel was born in Vulcan, Alberta to John and Mamie Olson, and attended school there. It was after she had completed school that Hazel met Harold Congdon and they were married on November 4, 1944. After they were married they lived in Vulcan, Midnapore and then moved to Heisler where they lived until 1997. The couple then moved to Stettler where they have resided ever since. Hazel worked for a time at Noble's Bakery and also at Moor's Tomboy Foods Store in Forestburg for a number of years. Hazel loved to garden and grew lots of vegetables and also grew the most beautiful flowers. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards and spending time visiting with family and friends. Hazel was a wonderful lady and will be missed by all who knew her. Hazel is survived by her loving husband Harold, her children Norma (Deryl) Norman of Donalda and Ed (Diane) Congdon of Blackfalds. Grandchildren Kyle (Sandra) Congdon, Brent (Courtney) Congdon and Shirley Norman (Brandon Dous). Great-grandchildren Nicholas, Lane, Bryce, Dylan, and Dani Congdon. Hazel is also survived by her sisters Mable Howerton, Dorothy Stewart and Rena Hodge. Sisters-in-law Beth Congdon, Marjorie Congdon, Margaret Congdon and Lena Smyth and brother-in-law George (Norma) Congdon. Funeral services were held at the Brennen Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Ross Helgeton officiating. A reception followed the service in the Brennen Funeral Home Reception area. Earlier that day, family gathered at Lake View Cemetery in Stettler where Hazel was laid to rest. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to S.T.A.R.S.
