IRONSIDE, Gordon Walter

Gordon Walter Ironside was born on November 15, 1929, in Hanna, Alberta, the eldest child of Telfer Gordon Ironside and Margaret Ruth Ironside. He attended Corinne School House. When he was ten years old he put his trust in Jesus Christ as his Saviour. He studied at Berean Bible College in Calgary, Alberta, graduating in 1957. He entered into God's presence on Sunday, December 27, 2009, at 4:34 p.m. Gordon was involved in various occupations through the years. His passions included woodworking, hunting, gardening and people. He cared deeply for people, young and old, and had a tremendous ability to encourage them. His memory was phenomenal - he would call so many relatives and friends for their birthdays and anniversaries. He always took the time to talk to you. He was a true friend. Gordon loved God's Word and was faithful in studying and proclaiming it. In earlier years he was involved in camp ministries. He was the pastor of the Biblical Baptist Church in Fleet for many years. Gordon was predeceased by his parents and by his sister-in-law Patricia Ironside. He is survived by his siblings, Mary Jordan of Florida, Allan Ironside of Three Hills, Clark Ironside (Evelyn) of Trochu, Margaret Sieppert (Alex) of Calgary, Bruce Ironside (Bev) of Arizona, Mabel Pluister (Hank) of Blackfalds, and Marilyn Gurnett of Fort Saskatchewan; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews; cousins; and numerous friends. He was a gentle, unassuming man and will be missed enormously by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Funeral Services were held on Monday, January 4, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Hanna Alliance Church, Hanna, AB with Scott Holloway officiating. Congregational hymns were "The Old Rugged Cross", "Power In The Blood" and "It Is Well With My Soul. The welcome & prayer as well as scripture readings were given by Allan T. Ironside. The obituary was given by Gordon Ironside and the tribute was given by Angela Ironside. There was special music by Gordon's nieces and nephews. The interment was held at 11:30 A.M. at the Netherby Cemetery; active pallbearers were, Lyn Holloway, Ron Sauter, Phillip Anderson, Kirk Holloway, Preston Holloway and Gus Mattheis. Honouray pallbearers were Lawrence Anderson, Bill Adams, Harold Strandberg, Henry Nelson and Jim Keay. A beautiful lunch was prepared and served by the Alliance Church Women at the Seniors Circle in Hanna. Memorial tributes may be made in Gordon's memory to Bearing Precious Seed, or to The Canadian Bible Society in care of Coronation Funeral Home, Box 35, Coronation, AB, T0C 1C0.
