COULTHARD

Gladys Emily (Kneeland) Coulthard was born on November 6, 1928 and passed away on August 9, 2011 at Bethany Collegeside in Red Deer at the age of 82 years. She grew up on the family farm north of Halkirk and attended Rosebank and Halkirk schools. On November 27, 1947, Gladys married Clarence Coulthard of the Painter Creek area and to this union, three children were born: Don, Gloria and Karen. Alongside Clarence, Gladys worked on the family's mixed farm as well as driving school bus for several years. Sewing was a favourite pastime over the years, sewing many of her own clothes as well as for the kids. She was an active member of the Paint- earth Sewing Club and contributed her handiwork to many quilts for members and charity. Gladys also grew a large garden every year and enjoyed keeping the yard and flower beds tended. Clarence and Gladys enjoyed dancing their whole lives and in later years, travelled to many fiddling jamborees and old time dances. Gladys was predeceased by her husband, Clarence, in 1997, as well as eight of her siblings. She is survived by one son, Don (Dean) of Halkirk and two daughters, Gloria (Bob) Hronek of Innisfail and Karen Jackson of Red Deer and eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren: Jennifer Coulthard; Terrence (Lyndsey) Coulthard, Meghan, Reid and Kade; Darcy (Tammy) Hronek, Kayla and Luke; Daryl (Karen) Hronek, Deion and Cole; Kevin Hronek; Kimberley (Darren) Page and Layne; Adam Jackson; and Kyle (Josie) Jackson and Colby. Gladys is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Thoen of Kamloops and sister-in-law, Edna Dryden of Galahad and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service for the late Mrs. Gladys Coulthard was held on Monday, August 15, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. in the Halkirk Community Hall, Halkirk, Alberta with Reverend Jack Schulze officiating. A loving tribute in memory of Gladys was given by Donna Strome. Soloist Shirley McKay shared her gift of music singing The Lord Is My Shepherd and led the congregation in singing You Are My Sunshine and Bringing In The Sheaves accompanied by Lorraine Coulthard on piano. Gladys Coulthard was laid to rest beside her husband, Clarence in the Halkirk Cemetery with grandsons: Terrence Coulthard, Darcy Hronek, Daryl Hronek, Kevin Hronek, Adam Jackson and Kyle Jackson serving as pallbearers. Following the interment service family and friends joined together in the Halkirk Hall for a time of fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by the Halkirk Hall Board Ladies. Memorial donations in memory of Gladys are gratefully accepted to Halkirk Cemetery or the Alzheimer Society c/o Parkview/Stettler Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Box 1780, Stettler, Alberta T0C 2L0, who were entrusted with the care and arrangements.
