BIGNELL - Gertrude Leona (nee Rottenfusser) was born Aug. 11, 1917 at Botha, AB and passed away at the Pineridge Lodge in Stettler, AB on Dec. 8, 2008 at the age of 91 years, 4 months. She is survived by children Kendall (Shirley) Bignell, Gerald (Annabelle) Bignell all of Stettler, Myra (Jim) Greig of Big Valley, AB, Don (Diane) Bignell of Mirror, AB; Sharon (Lloyd) Duncan of Big Valley and Dixie Bignell of Edmonton, AB; 15 grandchildren and spouses, 39 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, sister Frances Bignell of Barriere, B.C. and two sisters-in-law; as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. She was predeceased by her infant son Lorne, husband Chester, parents John and Elsie Rottenfusser, two brothers, six sisters, six brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law. Mom was raised in the Blumeneau District northeast of Stettler. She met and married Dad on Nov. 30, 1936 in the Stettler United Church. She worked alongside Dad on the farm and she enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-great-grandson. Mom enjoyed her painting, gardening, camping and fishing, bingo and playing cards. She was an excellent cook and you never left her home hungry. She was a huge part of the Liberal Community. She moved to Paragon Place and enjoyed baking and later moved to Pineridge where she resided until her passing. A funeral service was held at the Stettler United Church on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. David Denholm officiating. Pallbearers were Gertie’s grandsons and the honorary pallbearers were all of her granddaughters. The organist was Elaine Hennel and the soloist was Mary Lou Manson. The interment followed the service in the Liberal Cemetery. A reception and fellowship then took place in the CE Wing of the Stettler United Church and was graciously served by the UCW.
